In the world of dating app there are constant urban legends and myths as to how to get a match as well as weird trends that will suddenly pop up on repeat – like everyone suddenly loving gin last summer or having to have a photo holding a dog or a baby!
But you don’t have to rely on your friends’ theories of what works, as Tinder has released its own study of what works best!
Pop of colour
Whilst apparently everyone tends to err on the side of caution and in favour of neutral colours such as black, beige, greys etc, a colourful outfit or background can actually do wonders for you! According to Tinder’s study we’ve become so accustomed to scrolling through similar-looking profiles, that a splash of colour can often be the most arresting thing!
Don’t hide!
We’re all nervous and shy about putting ourselves out there, but hiding behind glasses and hats isn’t going to help. In fact, it’s going to make it worse! Wearing a sunglasses or a hat can reduce your swipe rate by 12 to 15% respectively according to Tinder’s study. This is because of people’s inherent suspicion – the more you cover up the more they imagine you’ve something to hide!
Smile
You might think that looking serious and sexy is what’s going to get you a match, but think again! People are looking for openness and to not be terrified by a stranger, so more often than not a smile is the most disarming weapon! Smiling ups your chances of a match by 14% so give those pearly whites an outing next time you’re picking a photo!
‘Nuff selfies already
Variety in photos is one of the crucial things on Tinder. Yes, we’ve all probably gotten accustomed to photos showing someone holding a puppy, with friends at a wedding, and doing some form of sport, but believe it or not it works! People want to get an idea of who you are from your photos, so a series of selfies just won’t cut it!
Look straight into the camera
This might seem obvious but according to Tinder a lot of its users don’t do this! Looking into the camera allows users to see what your face looks like properly, but also makes you appear slightly more vulnerable which in its turn makes users feel more comfortable with talking to you!
