There are many contributing factors that can lead to erectile dysfunction, from working too hard to working too little, from diet to alcohol consumption, from mental health to environment. It’s a concern that every man has at some point and one that despite its normality, continues to be shrouded in mystery somewhat.

ED is not a permanent problem and as you’ve probably heard from her in the past – “don’t worry, it happens!” But it really does!

The recent Massachusetts Male Aging Study suggested that at least half the male population experiences ED at some stage, with an increase in erectile problems occurring starting from the age of 40. A Superdrug survey in the UK revealed that 26% of men have experienced impotence at some stage.

Whilst of course traditionally Viagra is the go-to to fix the problem, many medical experts recommend using exercise to improve the occurrence of ED in the long run.

So here’s a number of exercises to do in order to improve chances of the occurrence of ED.

Kegels

Pelvic exercises commonly known as Kegels exercises are probably one of the best known exercises ‘for sex’. Their focus is on pelvic floor muscles and the muscles of your lower abdomen – generally the muscles around your penis yep!

How to identify them and do them everyday (easily)

So before you start doing your pelvic exercises it’s important to be sure you’re actually doing them correctly and have correctly identified where your pelvic floor is.

Medical practitioners recommend what may at first may seem like an unorthodox approach to finding your pelvic floor but is in fact one of the simplest! Stop and start again during urination a couple of times. Holding your pee in will help you identify your pelvic floor muscles and controlling your urination equally helps you practice control over stimuli in that general area – ahem.

Repeat this a couple of times a day (perhaps first pee in the morning and last at night?). If you’re using your stomach or your glutes to do this you’re doing it wrong!

Other exercises?

Because there’s a strong correlation between high blood pressure (which most often can be caused by lifestyle factors such as stress and anxiety) and ED, aerobic exercise is often recommended for it as it stimulates circulation but has also been proven to be effective in improving moods. Cycling and running in particular have been proven to work.

Whilst in the short-term or “in the moment” the only thing that’s going to work is Viagra and drugs associated to it like Cialis, the reality is that ED in longterm can only be fixed through exercise and healthy lifestyle.
