Some people never learn. You would think that after the new publicity that Fyre Festival received with the Netflix super-viewed documentary Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, that the likes of Ja Rule might keep a low profile. But the rapper-cum-businessman who was one of the chief investors and organisers behind the scam-festival, has apparently been teasing a Fyre Festival 2.0 over the weekend!
The rapper has been working on a new app called Iconn, which much like the app used to set up Fyre Festival, would entail managing to book celebrities. The festival that Iconn would be launched through would be Iconic, a festival the rapper has begun to tease in recent days.
Fyre Festival was the celebrity and model endorsed festival (with the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajowski appearing in the teasers) that was supposed to be headlined by Blink 182 (who pulled out) set on a tiny island in the Caribbean. But the festival devolved into a disaster with people stuck in the island with no food or accommodation and no way to get off!
“[Fyre] is the most iconic festival that never was,” he said, speaking to TMZ. “I have plans to create the Iconic music festival, but you didn’t hear it from me.” The rapper has faced disgrace and his business partner Billy McFarland only narrowly missed a six year jail sentence for fraud. And yet, Ja Rule seems confident in what he’s doing.
“It is kind of similar to what the [Fyre] app was, but you have to understand the app was separate from the festival,” Ja Rule told TMZ.
I mean at the very least his festival will make headlines and there certainly will be punters who’ll be signing up for the sheer get-the-popcorn out and watch it all burn effect.
