Closeup portrait of a beautiful male model

We’re all aware that men’s grooming has become something of a common feature of modern masculinity today in a way that would’ve seemed unimaginable even just 10 years ago. In fact a study carried out by GQ and Clinique For Men showed that almost 20% of men had paid for a beauty treatment in the past year and almost 60% of GQ readers admitting that they spend more than £15 on beauty products on a daily basis.

That grooming is now a major part of any man’s regimen has been put down to having to appear dateable online and has in many ways led to a revolution in male beauty. But whilst the current trend (and growth in the male cosmetics market) is well documented, we are as of yet unsure what the future holds remains still something of a mysteryHowever, trend forecasters and beauty experts have predicted what the future might hold, and we’ve picked 5 of our favourite theories on the future of male beauty:

1. Cosmetic surgery will be the norm

Thread face-lifts, injections, and filler, whilst still minor interventions that one might deny or be ashamed to admit to as well as perhaps shocked to find out other people engage in these days, cosmetic surgery  is due to become the norm in the future! Instagram perfect features don’t just make women but also men have lofty expectations of themselves. When it started as a fad in 2010 one could not have imagined how widespread and long-lived the beard trend would be. And yet almost 10 years on the beards are still going strong and look in no way set to stop being desirable. So perhaps shorter and stubblier as some have suggested, nonetheless they’ll still be there as they were in the past according to GQ!

Astonished attractive male has ginger long beard, wonders sudden news, keeps mouth slightly opened, stares at camera, wears casual clothes and spectacles, poses against white wall with blank space

2. Beards will STILL be around

3. Wellness infused beauty

According to data aggregating and trend predicting site CBInsights, the focus on wellness we’re currently experiencing is influencing the beauty trends of tomorrow. The idea of holistic wellness from the inside-out is being adopted into the branding of most beauty companies. Men in particular have been targeted by this type of branding in that it’s seen as a way of making grooming seem less about beauty and more about health.

4. No more baldness

As the process of hair transplants and technology around them becomes more widespread and the practice becomes more common for both patients and doctors to perform, hair transplants are going to become more affordable and in all likelihood accessible and popular. Considering that by the age of 50 around 53% of men will have experienced some form of baldness, it’s not that remarkable.

5. Make-up!

Vogue last month featured an article entitled “Is 2019 the year men’s make-up goes mainstream?” The article referenced the fact that the male beauty industry is set to be worth £47bn by 2020 and is one of the most rapidly growing sectors of the beauty industry. Not only that, many will have noticed that staples of the catwalks for the last two seasons included men wearing makeup, be it contouring or actual eyeliner (like Jared Leto).

These grooming predictions scare you? Well the future is a scary place my friend.
