It’s hard to get shocked in this day and age but with its latest offering Channel 4 may have just managed it. In a new series entitled Mums Make Porn audiences get to follow the journey of five mothers concerned with the effects that porn is having on children. So what do they do? They decide to shoot their own.
Emma, Anita, Sarah, Sarah-Louise and Jane are given all the skills and advice they might need to shoot their own adult film and then brought on a tour of various different porn sets to see the whole thing ‘in action’ as it were.
The aim for the mothers is to create a porno from start to finish – writing, casting, directing – that promotes a healthy attitude towards sex and women and that they would be happy for their kids to watch. Eek!
The series immediately is full of ‘Omg’ moments, such as when Sarah-Louise witnesses a scene of hardcore porn being made and has to run off set clutching a tissue because she’s about to vomit. “I think it was the bodily fluids bit that knocked me,” she says later.
Some woman’s just cried when they said anal and another woman on here is saying she watches porn all the time and is keeping quiet when they’re playing it and everyone else is disgusted? actually can’t deal with this?? #MumsMakePorn

The mums go on set for a gang-bang scene as well as a scene enacting a rape fantasy, and are all left extremely shocked by it. Speaking to Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, the mums said that their desire in making their own adult film was to prioritise “exploration of the body” as Emma explains, with Sarah adding that “it doesn’t matter about your sexuality, the fundamental thing is consent.”
The women did enjoy however visiting the set of ‘ethical’ porn director Erika Lust, who we wrote about already this week in relation to her film about sex in later life with two 70 year-old volunteers.

The show received a diverse response on social media, with some Twitter users saying watching the mums discuss sex and porn so candidly was more shocking than any actual porn!
The show is timely in that the UK is set to introduce Age Verification in coming months which will require viewers of adult content to verify their identity and age before accessing any porn in an effort to protect underage users from unsuitable content.
Xpanded has always required age verification for its adult content and welcomes the initiative and is ready for the next step.
In the meantime, Mums Make Porn is back next Wednesday at 10pm on Channel 4.
