The Classics
Hearts:
A simple outline of a heart on the bikini line or on your hip can act as a cheeky turn on.
Swallows / birds:
A popular design symbolising freedom, which can be detailed into the dandelion design.
Dandelion:
The blowing dandelion is another motif representing freedom of spirit. Dainty and feminine, this tattoo is subtly sexy.
Dreamcatcher:
Symbolic of liberation (the dreamcatcher was originally believed to capture bad dreams, allowing for a lightness of spirit) this tattoo is traditionally worn on the arm, lower leg (nearing the ankle) or rib cage.
Script:
Often a meaningful phrase of proverb; this tattoo features well on the thigh or ribcage.

Arrow:
Depending on the design of the arrow, this tattoo may be representative of one of a variety of meanings. These may include; friendship, direction, protection and encouragement.
Most popular
Glyphs:
With so many designs of glyphs, this tattoo has stood the test of time and is likely to continue in its popularity. Small and subtle, this tattoo is best worn on a wrist or ankle where it will not be ‘lost’.
Hashtags:
These should only be used when tweeting or when needed for identification purposes on phone calls. A passing trend that doesn’t look impressive or sexy.
Tribal:
Tribal markings are another design that have stood the test of time. Whether worn on the ribcage or shoulder blade, this is one of the ultimate naughty girl designs.

Map outline:
This design is sexy if worn on the wrist or on your cheeks (and we don’t mean your face!). Sometimes, the design is somewhat overdone when ladies opt to have their entire back covered with the motif. You know the places you have travelled, your body should not need to serve as a reminder. The tattoo gets ‘messy’ when red ‘pins’ mark the destinations you’ve travelled to.
ECG readings:
This design surged in popularity in 2014/2015. Like the hashtag, this tattoo will spiral out of fashion as quickly as it came in.
Skyline:
Usually featuring London or New York, the skyline tattoo is fun, modern and works well using either coloured or black ink.
Something a little different…
Bicycle:
Love the outdoors, adventure and travel? This cheeky set of wheels is something a little different. When on display, be ready for the ‘what inspired you?’ comments. Forgetting the meanings behind tattoos, sometimes it feels great to be able to say, ‘just because…’

Aloha & Wave:
This subtly exotic beach-lovers tattoo creates connotations of the ultimate beach babe. Whether worn on the wrist, across your ribs or on the ankle, this ink is hotter than the summer sun!

Sleeve:
Why have one tattoo when you could have many? It’s time to get creative and create a design more personal to yourself. With a larger canvas, your ink can be that little bit more colourful too, should you wish.
Military:
Then men and women who serve our country warrant a great deal of respect. Although women may also proudly wear this tattoo, it is more commonly seen on men.
Biker:
Most bike chapters have their own emblem which many of their members like to sport as a tattoo.
Tribal:
A popular choice that has stood the test of time has been tribal variations. This option looks good on many areas of the body, but can be overdone.
Something a little different…
Your Pet’s Paw-print:
Ladies love a guy who have a softer side and your pet (namely dogs), means the world to you. How better to show your love of man’s best friend?
Surf:
Want something with a splash of colour? This might not necessarily be the hottest tattoo, but it’s certainly that little bit different. There are plenty of surf slogans and board outlines, but this near painting is certainly fun with its pop-arty design.

Thighs:
Whether a simple line of script to a sexy stocking motif, thigh tattoos are the ultimate turn on.

Ribs:
Allowing for a wider canvas, the budding artist can get creative with her designs.
Hip / Bikini line:
Keeping your tattoo classy, the hip and bikini line can be very sensual places to hide an understated design.
Ankle:
A subtle feather or anklet can be remarkably sexy.
Lads Designs: Most popular areas
Arms:
Whether a sleeve or an individual drawing, arms are a safe bet. Easy to cover-up and equally easy to show off; some women find guys with painted arms irresistibly sexy.

Legs:
Perfect for guys who love the gym, legs offer a good area in which to feature more elaborate work.
Back:
Similar to legs, your back can host larger creations that may work into artwork on the arms.
Either gender
Women can rock a sleeve design and men, a heart. Any art is an expression of one’s self so there is no need to conform to a certain stereotype. More often than not, people like to ‘break free of the mould’ and try something that’s a little quirkier. There are options that appear more versatile and look hot on either sex. For example;
Feathers:
Symbolic of heritage, truth and freedom; there are a range of feather designs that can reflect different personality types. Linking to a certain bird, for example, allows for you to reference certain personality traits. For a more feminine touch, a smaller, lighter design making use of pastel colours would make for a cute design. Featured on the bikini line or under the bust allows is very alluring too. For men, this tattoo works best on the biceps or shoulders.

Ladies: Least popular areas
Lower back / ‘Tramp stamp’:
More commonly worn by women, these tattoos have received their fair share of bad press. Now associated with loose women, many choose to opt for other areas to wear their art.

Face:
Statistically, this choice would lower your prospects of finding employment.
Neck:
Similarly, a high proportion of employers would choose not to employ someone with significantly visible body art.
Stomach:
Usually used for comical purposes, more men have chosen to create designs in which their ‘belly button’ features the rear end of an animal. Although amusing when browsing the internet, to wear this for life takes some guts (pardon the pun).
Least popular designs
On either gender, the following lack class and are rarely age appropriate.

Profanities:
This visually lowers your IQ.
Misery quotes:
Phrases such as, ‘Stay Strong’ does not present you as a fun character.
Injuries:
Bullet holes, slash marks: Can be a big turn off. They certainly aren’t sexy and can appear chavvy.
Ex names:
For obvious reasons, this is insulting to future partners.
Misspelling words:
Again, this visually lowers your IQ.
