If you had a rough week this is sure to calm and soothe you.

Whilst we’re all probably very familiar with the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, we’ve probably not seen or heard much about the Aurora Australis, the light show that takes place over the South Pole.

An amazing piece of footage released yesterday however shows of the mind-blowing display via a timelapse.

The video was shot by Robert Schwarz an operator and technician at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station.

The rare footage was captured through special equipment made to resist the incredibly strong winds and temperatures that can go to -70C!

The display makes the rough weather almost seem worth it, and certainly puts our moaning about winter in perspective.
