There’s a common assumption that older people don’t have sex or aren’t interested in it and to shrouding sex among elders further in mystery is the fact that it has little to no visibility.
But one couple in their 70s has gone some way to changing that. John and Dr Annie Campbell met on a dating app called Spiritual Singles back in 2011 and immediately sparks flew. The pair have been in a sexually active and loving relationship for years and practice what they call ‘soul sex’ – sex with no expectations and no goals.
And to promote this image of sex the pair decided to contact famous porn director Erika Lust of Lust films to see if she’d be interested in doing a film with an elderly couple at its heart. In their letter Annie and John wrote, “we are John and Annie and we believe there is another way to fuck. We call it ‘Soul Sex’.” Lust, famous for her feminist, non-binary, and quirky pornos took the bait!
Soul Sex is a porno that stars the couple in very intimate contact.
“We believe that our bodies are communication devices whose primary purpose is to extend love, rather than fear, in all our interactions,” they told Metro.
“We find that in many sexual interactions there is often a great deal of fear present, as there was in our own before we learned a different way of having sex,” they say. “And where fear is present, real love is not, as they are two opposites.”
Aside from being some of the most mature adult performers, without a doubt they are also the bravest. Despite that when it came to actual filming the couple admitted that John’s penis “vanished” out of nerves but that they persevered.
Lust described the sex scene saying it “could not have been further from a typical, mainstream set. They started with some beautiful words of intention before starting their slow and tender ‘soul sex’.”
Statistics show that in fact people over 70 have as much sex as millennials almost, so the fact that there’s so few examples of it in porn is somewhat shocking. As well as opening up discussions about sex among people over 70, John and Annie also showed that contrary to the saying, you can teach an old dog new tricks.
