It feels like that is one of the great unanswerable questions and a worthwhile one to ask ourselves on Valentine\u2019s Day of all days. What is the relationship between sex and love? And when the sex is incredible is that infatuation or does it translate to love?<\/p>\n

Lots of people tend to think that sexual desire and love are inherently connected, but in one study, when people were asked to respond to the statement, \u201cthe best thing about love is sex,\u201d 90% of them rejected the statement..<\/p>\n

However, there\u2019s ample scientific evidence that shows that the parts of the brain triggered by sexual desire are almost identical to the parts of the brain that are triggered by love. In fact, many psychologists encourage people to conceive of sexual desire as an emotion and not just as an impulse or lustful desire devoid of feeling.<\/p>\n

Whilst obviously sex without love is possible, love without sex is a a little less plausible. Sex without love is full of benefits to your health, sense of self, stress relief, and is of course, a highly pleasurable experience that releases endorphins.<\/p>\n

Relationships are regarded as the intersection of care, commitment, and desire. And as<\/p>\n

Psychology Today says, \u201csex predicts affection and affection, in turn, predicts sexual activity.\u201d Basically your love life and sex life inform each other and will determine how one plays out alongside the other.<\/p>\n

But a particularly interesting study revealed that what influenced relationships in terms of sex, wasn\u2019t the sex itself, but the affection that surrounded it. Anik Debrot carried out a study that showed that the physicality and intimacy that surrounded the sexual experiences – hugging, kissing, touching – contributed most to the overall happiness of a relationship.<\/p>\n

So it looks like sex and love are inherently linked and if one is suffering then the other one will too. Awwww. Science is on the side of romance it seems!<\/p>\n
