Dating has changed remarkably over the last decade – imagine that Tinder only got released in 2011 and now it\u2019s hard to imagine us living without online dating! It\u2019s seen the rise in online dating, constant mentions of the perils of hook-up culture, as well as given us a whole new host of terms and words with which to describe our behaviour!<\/p>\n
So what to expect from the next decade of dating? Well Plenty of Fish, the dating platform, did a survey in November to see what was most likely to be coming up and came up with a variety of terms that could be indicative of what to expect in the coming year!<\/p>\n
Yellow carding<\/b><\/p>\n
This is when you get called out on your poor dating behaviour – like getting a yellow card for dating. According to research daters have become much better at calling people out for unacceptable behaviour. 27% of people admitted to having done this!<\/p>\n
Kanyed<\/b><\/p>\n
Inspired by rapper Kanye West, this refers to when you\u2019re on a date with someone who just talks about themselves the whole time – much like Kanye does. Amazingly almost half of all daters reported having suffered through this experience of being someone\u2019s audience on a date!<\/p>\n
Glamboozled<\/b><\/p>\n
When you get all dressed up and mentally prepared to go on a date only to have the person cancel last minute. Haven\u2019t we all been there?! Well it looks like at least 58% of us has anyway!<\/p>\n
Eclipsing<\/b><\/p>\n
When you pretend to share the same interests and hobbies as a person you\u2019ve just met in order to impress them and be close to them! This ultimately probably falls by the wayside the further things go, or at least becomes apparently untrue if you keep seeing the person (how embarrassing)! 58% of people said they\u2019d experienced someone they were dating doing this, and 45% admitted doing it themselves!<\/p>\n
Type-casting\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n
If you\u2019ve been on dating apps you will be well aware of the Myers Briggs test. This is a personality test often used by big firms when they\u2019re in the process of hiring someone but it\u2019s passed into dating profiles with people often stating their personality type in the short-hand of letters that you\u2019re given at the end of the test. 27% of people have gone out with someone who talked about their Myers Briggs personality during a first date!<\/p>\n
What\u2019s to be taken from this? Perhaps that we\u2019re all cottoning onto the tropes and fauxpas of online dating and it\u2019s simply not going to be enough to trot out the same bad behaviour or lazy shortcuts.
